Library Hours

Mount Sinai employees and registered volunteers, Icahn School of Medicine faculty, staff, and students, and Philips School of Nursing faculty, staff, and students are welcome to use the Mount Sinai Information Commons 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

  • Monday to Friday 9:00am - 5:00pm: During business hours, the Information Commons door is unlocked. Members of the aforementioned groups can access the space with a Mount Sinai ID card.

  • After 5:00pm and all weekend hours: Outside of business hours, the Information Commons doors are locked. Members of the aforementioned groups can access the space, after 5:00pm on weekdays and during all weekend hours, by swiping their Mount Sinai ID cards.

  • Library staff service hours: 9:00am-5:00pm  Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, or by appointment. Email: MSMW.Library@mountsinai.org

Visiting Policies

In order to ensure the health and safety of all users and library staff, the following policies are in place:

  1. Information Commons Access Policy
    • All users must enter the information commons with a valid and current Mount Sinai ID card.
    • If your Mount Sinai ID card does not work, visit the Mount Sinai Morningside Security office on Floor 1.
  2. Noise Policy
    • Conversations, phone calls, and video meetings are permitted in the Group Study areas.
    • Due to the size of the Information Commons, we ask that all users limit conversations with others, talking on the phone, and general noise. If you require a space that offers silent areas or meeting pods, please consider visiting the Levy Library.
    • Earplugs are available near the help desk.
    • Playing audio out loud on any device is not permitted. Please use headphones to listen to audio content.
  3. Seating Policy
    • Tables and chairs cannot be moved.
    • Cleaning and sanitation supplies are available upon request. We encourage all individuals to clean their space before/after use. 
  4. Food and Drinks Policy
    • Small food items are permitted. Patrons must clean their space and dispose of any garbage when leaving.
    • Drinks with lids are permitted.
  5. Printing Policy
    • Printing is available at no charge to all members of the Mount Sinai community.
    • Printing is only available in black & white.
    • Printing of full textbooks and licensed material is strictly prohibited. Patrons must abide by U.S. Copyright Law.
    • Patrons are encouraged to limit their printer use and avoid excess printing.
  6. Mask Policy
    • Masks are currently optional in the Information Commons. Please understand that these policies may be revised if COVID-19 rates change or the regulatory environment changes.

The Mount Sinai Morningside Information Commons has a variety of seating arrangements for different types of work and study. There are a total of 38 seats with the following features:

  • Soft Seating
  • Group Study Tables
  • Computer Desktop Workstations
  • Private Alcoves
