Plagiarism Detection
The University of Oxford defines plagiarism as "Presenting work or ideas from another source as your own, with or without consent of the original author, by incorporating it into your work without full acknowledgement. All published and unpublished material, whether in manuscript, printed or electronic form, is covered under this definition, as is the use of material generated wholly or in part through use of artificial intelligence."
Knowing whether or not you have sufficiently modified source materials isn't always clear. The Library has collected a variety of resources to help you navigate this process. You can access that information here.
In addition, the Library license a plagiarism detection tool called iThenticate. Limited licenses are available, learn more here.
Copyright and Authorship
As soon as a work is created it is protected by copyright law. Our Copyright & Fair Use guide discusses the basics of copyright and fair use.
While the author or creator of a work initially owns its copyright, this may change when works are published depending on the agreement that you sign when publishing your work. Our Authors Rights guide provides an overview on knowing your rights and negotiating with publishers.
Open Access
Open access publishing ensures the widest possible exposure for your research while maintaining the rights to reuse and distribute your work. The Library provides an Open Access guide discussing this publishing model.
The Levy Library has arranged with several publishers for no cost and discounted options for Mount Sinai authors to publish work as Open Access.
We also publish open access journals through the Levy Library Press (see below)

The Mount Sinai Center for Stress, Resilience, and Personal Growth (CSRPG) can help. Research and progress may not follow a linear trend; sometimes there are setbacks, and they happen to all of us. Although some of these setbacks might be inevitable, recovering from them can be challenging. If you are looking for individual one-on-one behavioral health support to help you bounce back from setbacks, the Center is here to support you.
