Connect to Resources: How to Sign In From a Journal Website

Learn how to access, use, and link to the Library's online resources.

Finding the OpenAthens Sign In

Open Athens offers the convenience of authenticating your login details across the internet using its sign-in service. This means that when you discover an article via PubMed, Google, or on a journal page, you can verify your access directly on the vendor's website.

Although each vendor's site varies, the option to Sign In or Login is typically displayed on the top right corner of the website.

Below, is an example of using the Login option from an Elsevier journal site to navigate to the Open Athens sign on page.

How to sign in through a Elsevier journal website

1. Look for the Login link on the top right of the screen. Click to open.

2. Look for the OpenAthens login link and click to open.

3. In the Find your organisation search box, enter Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Click on Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and you will be redirected to the Mount Sinai single sign-on page.

4. If you are accessing a resource off-campus/remotely, you will be redirected to the Microsoft Account and/or Mount Sign in page and will be prompted to authenticate your account through the two-factor authentication (2FA) process. If you do not have VPN with two-factor authentication set up, please visit the IT Security website and contact IT Help Desk for assistance.

NOTE: Employees and PSON students who do not have a Mount Sinai email address (@mountsinai.org, @mssm.edu, @icahn.mssm.edu), review the sign in process for users with no email addresses here: https://askalibrarian.mssm.edu/faq/401407
