About the ISMMS Levy Library Student Commons
Welcome! The Levy Library Student Commons is now open!
The ISMMS Levy Library Student Commons, a brand-new 1,400 square foot space inside the Levy Library, designed exclusively for Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai students. Whether you're looking for a quiet place to study, a collaborative environment for group projects, or simply a space to unwind, the Student Commons is here to support you.
This space was created in partnership with Medical Education, the Graduate School, and Levy Library, with the goal of providing a welcoming and inclusive environment tailored to your academic and personal needs.
What You’ll Find in the Student Commons
The Levy Library Student Commons offers a variety of spaces to match different study and collaboration styles:
- Commons Area – A relaxed, open space where you can connect with peers, have casual conversations, or engage in independent study.
- Two Individual Focus Rooms – Ideal for deep focus, virtual meetings, or interviews. These rooms can be reserved when you need a private space.
- Two Think Tanks (Group Study Rooms) – Perfect for teamwork and study groups, these bookable spaces allow for collaborative learning and discussion.
- One Collaborative Room – Designed for small group meetings and brainstorming sessions, this bookable space accommodates up to six users.
- Study Hub – Featuring six individual bookable desks for silent, distraction-free study.
Hours & Access
The Student Commons is located in room 11-02 inside the Levy Library, 11th floor, Annenberg building. The entrance is located on the southeastern corner of the library, beside the No Talking Zone.
The Student Commons is open during Levy Library’s 11th-floor hours. Access is limited to Icahn School of Medicine students, and you’ll need to use your Mount Sinai ID card to enter.
- Monday - Friday 7:30 AM - 12:50 AM
- Saturday 10:00 AM - 10:50 PM
- Sunday 12:00 PM - 10:50 PM
* Hours may change on holidays and observances
Students who are experiencing issues accessing the Student Commons with their Mount Sinai ID, can contact the Library at circdesk@mssm.edu for assistance.

Book a Space in the Levy Library Student Commons
Bookable rooms and desks are available for use by ISMMS students. Book at space at: libcal.mssm.edu/r/search/studentcommons
Booking & Space Guidelines
- Access to bookable spaces is limited to ISMMS students.
- There is no food or eating allowed in any bookable rooms.
- Students can have a maximum of 3 active bookings at one time in the Student Commons.
- Have your confirmation email ready to check into the room. Students who reserved a space are given priority over walk-in users.
- There is a 15 minute grace period for all reservations. You must check into the room within 15 minutes of your reservation time or it will be canceled.
- If you arrive for your scheduled reservation time and the room or desk is occupied by someone else, you may ask the current occupant to vacate.
- Leaving personal belongings in a room or a desk does not reserve or hold the space. Unattended items beyond the reservation time will be removed by library staff and placed at the Library User Services Desk until 5pm each day, then transferred to Mount Sinai Security.

Space Guidelines
To help creative a positive experience for all your fellow peers, please adhere to the following policies:
- The Study Hub is a silent study space. Talking is not permitted, and phones must be set to silent. Headphone volume should be kept low to ensure no sound is heard by others.
- Leaving personal belongings in at a desk does not reserve or hold the space. Unattended items beyond the reservation time will be removed by library staff and held at the Library User Services Desk until 5pm each day, then transferred to Mount Sinai Security.
- Have your confirmation email ready to check into the room. Students who reserved a desk are given priority over walk-in users.
- There is a 15 minute grace period for all reservations. You must check into the room within 15 minutes of your reservation time or it will be canceled.

- Focus Rooms may be reserved up to 5 days in advance.

Space Guidelines
To help creative a positive experience for all your fellow peers, please adhere to the following policies:
- Focus Rooms allow for quiet conversation, including participation in interviews or virtual meetings. However, noise should remain at a moderate, conversational level. Disruptive talking, shouting, music, or any sound that carries into the commons area is not permitted. Users must ensure their activities do not disturb others.
- Leaving personal belongings in a room does not reserve or hold the space. Unattended items beyond the reservation time will be removed by library staff and placed at the Library User Services Desk until 5pm each day, then transferred to Mount Sinai Security.
- Have your confirmation email read to check into the space. Students who reserved a space are given priority over walk-in users.
1102 A & B | Think Tanks (Group Study)

- Think Tank rooms may be reserved up to 1 day in advance.
