Visiting The Library: Independent Researchers

Eligibility

Independent researchers and members of the general public can request a day visit to the Levy Library to access certain library books, journals, or databases in our collection. This excludes requests to access the library to use school or hospital-licensed academic, clinical, or statistical software and databases that require registration or an account creation, library computers, or library spaces.

Availability

The availability of spaces in the library fluctuates daily,  so all visitors can only submit an appointment request to visit the library on a specified date and time. We are not able to accommodate requests for advanced visits that exceed one day. 

If you are an independent researcher who is performing extended research, we recommend utilizing the 96 St. New York Public Library (NYPL) (Get directions) as your home base or you can use any of the NYPL locations throughout the city. Appointments to visit the Levy Library should be focused on accessing specified resources in the collection. Should you need to another appointment to complete your search process, you can submit another request to visit on a specified date.

 

Access Hours 

Access is typically available by appointment during the following days and times:

  • Monday - Friday  8:00am - 6:00pm

 

Scheduling your visit

Independent researchers and members of the general public must submit a Levy Library Access Request Form to schedule a date and time to visit the Levy Library. Each submission is for one day only. 

After the form has been submitted, the requestor will be notified via email when their visit access request has been received and approved*. Please allow at least 3 business days for us to review and process your request. If you don’t receive the email, search your email folders (including spam) for “Levy Library Access Request” or ”Levy Library visit confirmation”. All approved visitors will then be added to the relevant library visitor access list(s). 

While we would prefer a lead time of 5 business days for all access requests, if you require to visit the library on the same day of your request, please submit the form and then contact the library directly at (212) 241-7791.

*Due to library space demands of the Mount Sinai community we may not be able to approve your requested visit date and/or time.

 

Mount Sinai Visitor Policies

  • A valid government-issued ID is required by Mount Sinai security when entering the Mount Sinai Hospital campus.

  • Library visitors are expected to follow all applicable Mount Sinai Health System  visitor and screening rules

  • Library visitors are encouraged to wear a mask in public and clinical areas accessible to patients, but masking in non-clinical, non-public areas is optional. The Levy Library is listed as a non-clinical area.
