Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Learning and Discovery: AI Literacy and Competencies
What is AI Literacy?
Long and Magerko define AI literacy as a set of core competencies that enables individuals to critically evaluate AI technologies; communicate and collaborate effectively with AI; and use AI as a tool online, at home, or in the workplace.¹
Competencies for the Use of Artificial Intelligence-Based Tools by Health Care Professionals
In 2021, fifteen subject matter experts were interviewed to define AI-related clinical competencies for healthcare professionals. Six competency domains were identified and are listed below --
1. Basic knowledge of AI
2. Social and ethical implications of AI
3. AI enhanced clinical encounters
4. Evidence-based evaluation of AI based tools
5. Workflow analysis for AI based tools
6. Practiced based learning and improvement regarding AI based tools
