ISMMS Shift to Remote Instruction: Teaching Tools and Workshops

In response to the 2020 COVID-19 outbreak, ISMMS has made a temporary shift to online instruction. This is your guide to current info and updates.

Academic IT team is hosting a number of workshops to support ISMMS faculty in this transition to online instruction.
This page will be updated twice a week (Monday and Thursday) with the most current information on the available workshops. 

Blackboard allows course directors to share course materials, communicate with students, create social interactions, provide feedback and more. Blackboard environment can shape and facilitate asynchronous student learning experience.

Build Your Own Course: This workshop will cover such topics as:

  • How to utilize Blackboard announcements to communicate important information to your students?
  • How to create intuitive and clear course flow using banners, text formatting and embedded videos?
  • How to retain social interaction in remote instruction? Utilize the power of the discussion board functionality.

Zoom is a powerful and versatile web conferencing tool that allows faculty to easily convert their in-person lectures to remote instruction. In this workshop series, we will cover the various tools and options this platform offers to make the online environment as inviting as an in-person experience. It is recommended to password protect Zoom meetings.

Build Your Course in Blackboard; Incorporating Audience Response Software for Faculty
Learn about the advanced tools in Blackboard to make your course engaging and intuitive for students to navigate. Learn about Poll Everywhere and how to incorporate it effectively in your instruction. Zoom questions will be addressed as well.

Google Apps for Education is a cloud-based collection of applications that enhance teaching and learning. ISMMS Academic IT has partnered with Google to make Google Apps available to our faculty and students. ISMMS Google Apps accounts include (but are not limited to)  the following core applications:
 


Google Drive allows to store, organize, and access from anywhere your course content such as: syllabus, documents, etc.  from any device

 


Google Forms allows to collect information, quiz, and survey students and general ISMMS community.

 


Google Sites is an app that allows anyone, who has an account, to build webpages to host curriculum, or any other information relevant to teaching and learning.
