UpToDate Login Help

Access UpToDate via Single Sign On (SSO)

Starting August 12, access to UpToDate for all Mount Sinai users will transition to Single Sign-On (SSO) authentication.

The clinical information resource UpToDate (whether you access it from Epic, the UpToDate website, the mobile app or via the Levy Library website) has transitioned to single sign-on (SSO) with Azure multi-factor authentication (MFA).

How to get started

  • The next time you access UpToDate, you will register once using SSO and you will be automatically signed into UpToDate. Moving forward, when you access UpToDate your account will be recognized.
  • If you have not registered for multi-factor authentication, you can get started at: itsecurity.mssm.edu/mobile-device-security/ms-authenticator.
  • If you do not remember your UpToDate username or password or you do not get an email from the automated "Forgot password" option, please contact UpToDate Support.

Follow these instructions the first time you use SSO to access UpToDate

  • Access UpToDate through your preferred access point - Epic, uptodate.com, mobile app or via the Levy Library website, www.uptodate.com/login/mountinsinai.org
  • You will be directed to Mount Sinai’s authentication page to enter your SSO credentials.

  • Please select the next option based on your user type:

If you have an existing UpToDate account (for example, to track CME credits or save bookmarks), you do not need to register for a new account.

  • When you reach the registration page, select the "Merge Accounts" button and log in with your existing username and password, then select "Sign in"

  •  This will retain your current CME/CE/CPD data in one UpToDate user record.

  • This is the preferred method for keeping your saved information—like CME credits and bookmarks—all in one place.

  • Complete the Mount Sinai Single Sign-On (SSO) login.

  • On the UpToDate registration page, click the "Register" button.

  • Complete all fields on the registration form and then click "Submit Registration".

If you have completed the SSO process for the first time and a new account was created, but your existing account did not automatically merge during the process, follow these steps to manually merge your accounts:

  • Log into UpToDate through SSO.

  • Click My Account and then click Merge Accounts.

  • Confirm merge account information

  1. Sign in to UpToDate via OpenAthens and redeem your CME credits. Then log out and close your browser.
  2. In a new browser, sign in to UpToDate using Mount Sinai SSO and your Mount Sinai credentials.
  3. Create a new account when prompted.

UpToDate Access and Account Issues and Support

In some cases account merging may not work as expected. Here are a few examples of errors that may occur:

  • Existing Account Subscriptions
    • If your existing account is still active, an account merge will not work until the existing account subscription has lapsed.

    • Auto-merge: If you have an active subscription on your existing UpToDate account and choose to log in with that account during registration (auto-merge), you may still receive re-verification reminders. These notifications can continue until your original subscription expires.

  • Non-matching Last Names
    • If the user's last name on the two accounts attempting to merge does not match, it will produce an error.

      • Example: User’s original UpToDate account has their old last name, but they got married and their last name has changed.

Please contact UpToDate Support to assist in updating the name on the account, or other merge account issues and questions.

Mount Sinai Volunteer Faculty and Mount Sinai South Nassau Employees

If you are a Mount Sinai volunteer faculty member or South Nassau employee without Mount Sinai credentials (i.e., you do not have a Mount Sinai or Icahn School of Medicine email address), you can continue to access UpToDate the way you normally would when you are at any Mount Sinai Health System campus. This may be through your Library intranet page or directly at www.uptodate.com.
