Each month Levy Library showcases the achievements of Mount Sinai faculty and researchers by highlighting an article and its altmetrics. Altmetrics are alternative measures of impact that capture non-traditional data like abstract views, article downloads, and social media activity. Our altmetrics data is provided by the PlumX platform

This month we are highlighting the most cited article of 2020 published by members of the Mount Sinai community. The article, CT imaging features of 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-NCoV) by researchers Xueyan Mei, Zahi A. Fayad PhD, Adam H Jacobi MD, and Yang Yang was cited 717 times since its publication in Radiological Society of North America in April 2020.

Summary

In this retrospective case series, chest CT scans of 21 symptomatic patients from China infected with the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) were reviewed, with emphasis on identifying and characterizing the most common findings. Typical CT findings included bilateral pulmonary parenchymal ground-glass and consolidative pulmonary opacities, sometimes with a rounded morphology and a peripheral lung distribution. Notably, lung cavitation, discrete pulmonary nodules, pleural effusions, and lymphadenopathy were absent. Follow-up imaging in a subset of patients during the study time window often demonstrated mild or moderate progression of disease, as manifested by increasing extent and density of lung opacities.

We look forward to seeing you all at our event!

Event Overview:

How is race utilized, reported and interpreted in biomedical research? Is the use of race as a variable in clinical research practical or problematic? How can researchers responsibly investigate health disparities between racial groups to work towards meaningful change? In the latest installation of the Levy Library’s Research Insider series, we invite you to join us for a seminar that explores these issues from multiple perspectives, including representatives from the funding, publishing, and research communities.

2020 has been an unprecedented year. I don't have to explain this because we all have spent the last 11 months living it. Even Oxford Languages could not sum up this year in just one word, so to say this that year has been one for the records books is a bit of an understatement. With the year coming to a close, we wanted to take look back at 2020 through the lens of publications from Mount Sinai clinicians, scientists and researchers.

Using the Mount Sinai Plum dashboard we are able to learn what has been the most popular or talked about articles that have been published in 2020. On the same dashboard we can also look at how the world interacts and engages with published research from the Mount Sinai community. Plum Analytics (PlumX) captures both traditional and alternative metrics, so we have the ability to track more traditional forms of interactions and usage of publications like downloads and citations, but also see how publications are shared on social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook.

Here's a look at some of the top articles of 2020 based on both traditional and alternative metrics:
