Many thanks to Rabbi Jo Hirschmann, Dr. Noelle Marie Javier, Dr. Laura Kelly, Dr. Rosanne Leipzig, and all who attended the Levy Library’s most recent Mindful Medicine workshop on Issues in LGBT Healthcare.
Rabbi Jo Hirschmann facilitates a break-out case study exercise.
What issues do LGBT individuals face as they age? How does the stress of homophobia and transphobia exacerbate aging and contribute to “re-closeting” and “de-transitioning?” How can spiritual care perspectives inform the work of healthcare professionals in treating aging LGBT patients?
These are just a few of the issues that were considered in this workshop, along with a break-out case study exercise in which participants were able to apply these concerns to a specific scenario for further conversation.
Dr. Laura Kelly presents research on the challenges of aging among older LGBT adults.
