The Levy Library is pleased to partner with Sinai Embroidery, Crochet, and Knitting to expand the offerings in the Creativity Zone.  For your relaxation and destressing purposes, we're adding a variety of supplies to support fiber arts.

If you're new to the idea of fiber arts, stop by and take a few minutes to learn the basics of crochet by participating in our first ever "Add A Row" project.  We recognize that getting started on a new hobby can be daunting, so we've asked the members of Sinai Embroidery, Crochet, and Knitting to suggest some tutorial videos that show basic crochet techniques to help get you started!

Stop into the Levy Library Creativity Zone and scan one of the provided QR codes or check out one of the tutorials below:

We invite anyone who's ever wanted to give it a try to add on to the objects we've started in the Creativity Zone.  Do a quick row or two when you need a moment to decompress during a long study session, something to focus on during a break, or simply something to do to keep your hands busy.  Of course, if you're already experienced, you're welcome to participate as well!

We look forward to seeing your creativity in action!

If you want to learn more about the fiber arts and hang out with others with the same interest, connect with the Sinai Embroidery, Crochet, And Knitting group at craftysinai@icahn.mssm.edu

Bulletin board saying "Inspiration Starts Here" and showing 3 collages of hand drawn picturesThe Levy Library's Creativity Zone provides an outlet for anyone in the library to take a few minutes and recharge by doing something creative.  2023 saw many Mount Sinai community members engaging with their artistic side, using the drawing and coloring supplies in the space to express themselves.

Take a closer look at some of the artwork everyone produced; We loved seeing what everyone put their mind to making, and hope you will as well.

And if you'd rather not be stuck inside while creating, remember that the library's front desk has a variety of supplies, such as easels, markers, drawing pads, and more, which you can check out.  As the weather gets nicer, why not set up and draw in Central Park for a study break?  For more information about the supplies the Levy Library has available, please contact our Access Services department at circdesk@mssm.edu.

Stay tuned to find out about more the new and interesting ways you can take a break during 2024!

Happy Arts and Humanities Month!

We are proud the Levy Library is a destination for the Mount Sinai community as you create new knowledge and new ways of envisioning health.  We are very pleased to collaborate with the Academy for Medicine & the Humanities here at Mount Sinai to promote engagement with the arts and humanities in all aspects of our lives.

This is the first in what will be an ongoing series of messages sharing resources and opportunities to inspire and activate your creativity. We will highlight the resources and tools available to everyone through the Levy Library and Academic & Research Informatics.  Upcoming topics include:

  • Beautiful physical books about artists presenting as part of the Alexander Richman Commemorative Lecture in Humanism and Ethics in Medicine series
  • Art supplies and portable easels to use inside or outside the Library
  • The Levy Library's Graphic Medicine book collection
  • The podcasting studio

For now, we invite you to learn more about Arts & Humanities Month at https://www.americansforthearts.org/events/national-arts-and-humanities-month

We look forward to hearing from you! Your ideas on how we can support your creative efforts are welcome--please connect with us if you have suggestions, questions or comments.
