Many things need to be reworked or restructured this year and National Library Week is no different. While the message this year has slightly changed, the heart of the matter remains - the powerful impact of libraries on their communities. "Find the Library at Your Place" is the theme of this year's National Library Week. Even with physical locations closed and most people quarantined indoors, libraries have successfully adjusted their programming and are still "open for business" online. You have access to virtual services, digital content, live remote activities, and more - all from the comfort of your home.

Let's take a look at some of the resources and activities from libraries across New York City:

Get a New York Public Library card online

New York residents can apply for a New York Public Library card through SimplyE to gain access to an array of digital resources, including e-books and audiobooks, as well as databases available from home during our period of closure.

Pick up a new skill with the Mid-Manhattan Library

Learn the basics of HTML and CSS to create a simple web page. In this 90-minutes class, you'll learn to write code to add pictures, format text, and add links to a webpage. No previous experience required!

Drag Queen Story Hour with the Queens Public Library

Have any younger children at home with you? The Drag Queen Story Hour program from the Queens Public Library features a drag queen reading picture books, singing songs, and leading children in a craft activity.

Get crafty with the Brooklyn Public Library

Make a beautiful collection of your life stories and family photos with Vita Story Club. Every week, we'll gather as a group on Zoom to share our photos and the stories behind them. We'll help you preserve them in a personal memory book to make a great keepsake or gift for loved ones!

Get research assistance from The Levy Library

The Levy Library’s Education & Research Services team is here to offer remote assistance for all your learning and research needs. Register for a virtual education session, schedule a research consultation with a librarian, request custom group instruction or get one-on-one assistance with your scientific writing.
