Instructional Technology Group: Massive Open Online Courses

Our team works with various departments, doctors, and faculty to create massive open online courses (MOOCs) for Mount Sinai. MOOCs are free online courses that are open to anyone in the world and have no limit to the amount of students that can join. They offer anyone who has the urge to learn a catalog of topics ranging from arts and humanities, math, business, to social science. If you are interested in taking a course in a topic you find interesting, you can do so at the convenience of your own home.

Mount Sinai’s Departments of Academic IT and Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery have launched the first CME-accredited course, "Acute and Chronic Rhinosinusitis: A Comprehensive Review" on Coursera’s On Demand MOOC platform. Led by Dr. Satish Govindaraj, this course is designed for primary care physicians, general otolaryngologists, and individuals who wish to broaden their understanding of how to diagnose and treat patients who suffer from this these conditions.  

 

HPV-Associated Oral and Throat Cancer: What You Need to Know is offered by the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Taught by Dr. Eric M. Genden, this CME-accredited course is designed to inform primary care physicians and otolaryngologists (general and head and neck surgeons), as well as medical students, residents, nurses, physician assistants, medical assistants, about HPV-associated oral and throat cancers.  

 

Transgender Medicine for General Medical Providers is offered by the Center for Transgender Medicine and Surgery department at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Taught by Dr. Joshua D Safer, this course is a comprehensive set of didactic lectures surveying fundamentals of transgender medical and surgical treatment. The material is meant to provide the student with core knowledge that is essential for current primary care providers caring for transgender patients.
